From his childhood in Canada until his early teens in London, Oli practised and competed in karate, eventually earning his black belt. He then turned to BJJ and freestyle wrestling.
He has been a team member of Montreal, Toronto, Fuji Xerox (Keio University, Tokyo) and Kensington freestyle wrestling clubs.
After university he spent several years competing in Japan as a member of Wajutsu Keishukai, training alongside Yushin Okami, Caol Uno and K-taro Nakamura.
As a student he was a member of Oxford University judo and amateur boxing teams.

Freestyle wrestling: 2nd Place Irish Open 2014; 2nd Place Welsh Open 2013; 1st Place Southern Area Open 2012; 2nd in Welsh Open 2006; 2nd in University of Toronto Open 2006; 2nd in Rustington Open 2005; 5th in Montreal Open 2003; 10-4 match record for Team Fuji Xerox.
Professional MMA: 5-3 (wins over Abner Lloveras and Paul Jenkins).
