No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Classes in London – Grappling Without the Gi

No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a fast-paced, gripless style of grappling where you train without the traditional gi (kimono). Instead of grabbing sleeves or collars, you rely on underhooks, clinches, body locks, and wrestling-style grips.

It’s the foundation of modern grappling, MMA groundwork, and submission wrestling — perfect for students looking to build dynamic movement, speed, and real-world self-defense.

No-Gi vs Gi – What’s the Difference?

In Gi, you can grip sleeves, collars, and pants to control and submit your opponent. In No-Gi, none of that exists. Instead, you rely on clinches, underhooks, overhooks, and body control — making it faster and more momentum-based. Read more here.

That’s why many students train both — and why our Gi BJJ program complements your No-Gi game perfectly.

Gi jiu jitsu uses the traditional kimono, focusing on grip-based techniques. No-gi is faster, using shorts and rash guards with a more dynamic pace.

No-Gi is often faster and more explosive. While there are fewer grips, it requires strong body positioning, balance, and transitions. Many students find both equally valuable.

Rash guard, shorts or spats — no pockets, zippers, or metal. We recommend No-Gi attire that’s form-fitting to avoid snags or injuries.
