Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport which is also sometimes referred to as cage fighting. The sport has grown in popularity in recent years partially due to the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), Bellator and similar promotions.
Our MMA sessions mix Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling and Boxing into an exciting combination of ground work, grappling and striking techniques and are demanding, hard work and involve a lot of up-close fighting techniques.
MMA – The Basics
Those new to MMA are very welcome to join our team and the best place to start is with our MMA-The Basics classes or Mixed MMA sessions. MMA-The Basics sessions cover the fundamentals of the discipline so beginners (and more experienced students) are welcome to attend. You will see from our timetable that Monday’s lesson focuses on striking whilst Wednesday’s concentrates on grappling.
Mixed MMA sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7:15-8:15am) and Saturday mornings (11:30am-12:30pm) and again concentrate on either striking or grappling. Students are always paired with others of a similar experience, ability and size and techniques and combinations will be more complex that those drilled in MMA-The Basics sessions.
If you have never trained in either MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai or Wrestling before and aren’t sure if MMA is for you then you are very welcome to come along to watch a class first. Or, if you’re not sure what is the best way to start your MMA training, please just call or email for advice.
For your first few classes all you will need are a rash guard or t-shirt and shorts. Please note, there should be no zips, buttons and/or pockets on any item of clothing.
Potential students are welcome to try out one of our classes for free. Just click on the ‘Free First Class’ button and let us know when you’d like to come down. Please give us at least 2 days notice if you can though!
MMA – Advanced
Our class on Thursday evenings is a sparring session for advanced students only – so if you’ve never trained at LFF before we will need to see you train in one of our other MMA classes before you join this one.
MMA shorts and a rash guard or t-shirt with no zips, buttons and/or pockets on any item of clothing. Please also bring a gum shield, MMA gloves, a groin/chest protector plus hand wraps, boxing gloves, shin guards and a head protector.
MMA is often cited as the world’s fastest growing sport, and we receive many emails asking if we can help students to compete on an amateur, semi-pro or professional basis.
The answer is that we do, and we have an amateur team of fighters as well as Diego Vital and Jeremy Petley who are professional fighters. It obviously takes a lots of time, dedication and hard work to compete in any competition but if you’d like further information please get in touch.
